teenage dream is more than just a series - it’s a culture, a language, a framework of exploring the past to better understand the present. It’s about interrogating the myths, histories and beliefs that have constructed our youth and lives, confronting the shame and expectations placed upon us, and reclaiming our own narratives. At its core, teenage dream is about growth, grief, and renaissance—the process of unlearning, reimagining, and redefining what it means to have been young and what it means to be human. It’s an ongoing conversation, a space to reflect, critique, and create something new out of the rubble of what was.
teenage dream: the series is a deeply personal and introspective multi-part video series that takes the viewer on a journey - one that begins with deconstructing the teenage life stage and ends with confronting what it means to grow beyond it. Through cultural history, social analysis, and personal storytelling, the series unpacks the myths, histories, and ideologies that have shaped our understanding of youth. Starting with the origins of teenagehood as a social construct, the series unravels the expectations, anxieties, and frameworks that define our youth. It then shifts inward, turning toward my own experiences: examining masculinity, shame, self-perception, and the emotional weight carried from adolescence into adulthood. In doing so, teenage dream: the series is both an exploration and a reckoning—a space where grief, self-discovery, and transformation collide, leading to a final act of self-acceptance and reimagination.
